Students of AEC identified some microorganisms that help in the purification of Tannery effluent

In India, about 3,000 tanneries process 700,000 tons/year of hides and skins which is the major source of water pollution. Students of the Department of Biotechnology, AEC Agra identified some microorganisms that are very helpful in the purification of Tannery effluent.

Students carried out this work under the supervision of Mr. Prakash Kumar, Assistant Professor, Biotechnology. Students performed the bioremediation of tannery effluent by isolation of microbes from tannery effluent and tannery soil. Students had characterized tannery effluent and isolated six chromium-resistantmicrobesThese microbes were characterized using the 16 SRNA sequencing technique.

Dr. Shailendra Singh, Director of the College congratulated all the students and faculty members of Biotechnology for this invention.
